Peace Learning Circles (PLC) is a non-profit organization, an affiliate of the University of Wisconsin-Parkside, Center for Community Partnerships (CCP). We are modeled after the Peace Learning Centers of Indianapolis and Milwaukee.
Our initial pilot program began in May of 2006 with 3 classes from two schools, reaching 62 students. In the 2006/2007 school year, 18 classes from 10 schools attended the workshops, reaching 363 students. During the fall of the 2007/2008 school year, workshops were held for 35 classes from 12 different schools, including 3 private and 9 public, reaching 772 students. During the 2008-09 school year, nearly 1,200 students participated in our program from 40 classes in 15 schools from Kenosha & Racine. The numbers have been expanding each year as educators hear about the value of the program. To date, over 4,400 students have participated in our workshops and follow-up boosters.
