Peace Learning Circles (PLC) is a non-profit organization, an affiliate of the University of Wisconsin-Parkside, Center for Community Partnerships (CCP). We are modeled after the Peace Learning Centers of Indianapolis and Milwaukee.
Our initial pilot program began in May of 2006 with 3 classes from two schools, reaching 62 students. In the 2006/2007 school year, 18 classes from 10 schools attended the workshops, reaching 363 students. During the fall of the 2007/2008 school year, workshops were held for 35 classes from 12 different schools, including 3 private and 9 public, reaching 772 students. During the 2008-09 school year, nearly 1,200 students participated in our program from 40 classes in 15 schools from Kenosha & Racine. The numbers have been expanding each year as educators hear about the value of the program. To date, over 4,400 students have participated in our workshops and follow-up boosters.
Peace Learning Circles promotes a culture of peace through education to youth and communties.
To provide students with an exciting and fun opportunity to practice conflict resolution, peaceful living skills and gain increased environmental awareness through our many programs.
